“NINE years after starting the award-winning Liveability Features Framework for the Australian Real Estate industry it is time to move on.
From June 30 I am officially leaving this world-first venture in the capable hands of the CSIRO who purchased the business three years ago.
To quote filmmaker David Lynch to catch an idea ’so powerful enough to fall in love, is one of the most beautiful experiences’ and so it is bittersweet.
But as an entrepreneur and creator I am just as excited about the next stage in my career.
My departure from the Centre for Liveability Real Estate fully completes my obligations under the terms of the sale.
The Liveability Features Framework is the world’s first features-based building performance property marketing framework and has pioneered a new way to communicate the health and lifestyle benefits of a new set of property features.
It won the Banksia Award for Education and has been endorsed by peak bodies and organisations in the sustainable design, construction and assessment industries.
It empowered adopters in the real estate industry with a better customer service and the opportunity to get a higher price for their property customers.
It is an idea I developed in 2010 when, as a brand/ business development consultant to a major real estate franchise network, I first fell in love with this “big idea”.
It was when I realised there was a way to simultaneously deliver better homes for all Australians, drive value in the right direction for the new economy, lift property marketing standards and put value back into the face-to-face real estate relationship.
It is when I realised the word “sustainability” was getting in the way of the opportunity to empower us all to make better choices. It took 4 years to piece together all the elements together.
When in late 2016, CSIRO acquired the framework and asked me to continue to develop it with them, it was in recognition that the Liveability Features Framework represented the “missing link” in our knowledge of existing homes with its important cluster of 17 Liveability Property Features and the free Liveability Features appraisal which identified them.
I committed to oversee this transitional phase and deliver on that original “big idea” - to put in place a solution which would empower all Australians to create their best home, healthy, efficient, comfortable and connected to the community and whose value can be truly recognised when it comes time to sell, buy or rent.
The Liveability Features Framework is now a nationally consistent, regionally relevant Proptech data collection solution with companion training for property managers and sales agents and a simple and robust communications package for homeowners, renters and investors.
I continue to be passionate about the opportunities which are available to the property industry to take their service to the next level and be part of a solution to deliver better, more trusted property information and finally recognise the importance of a properties potential for ongoing affordability and comfort into the real estate transaction.
Special thanks and recognition should also go to the amazing people in the Liveability team who have worked on the project with me at different stages of its development over the last 9 years: Melissa Neighbour, Claire Budden, Susan Kim, Adele Pearson, Louise De Mattia, Michael Courtney, Grant Gordon, Shannon Young and Lachlan Cheers.
In the immediate future I will continue my consulting working with companies and individuals in the wider property, finance and valuation industry.”
